The public is invited to attend.
&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;
Packer died Saturday afternoon fighting a California wildfire. Packer, 49, had been deployed Friday to the Panther Fire south of Happy Camp in Siskiyou County in northern California to assume a supervisory position in the firefighting effort. Packer is a member of a Washington State-based incident management team and is deployed to major incidents, most frequently, large wild land fires. 
&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;
In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions can be made at any Washington Mutual Bank under the Fire Chief Dan Packer Memorial Fund.  Checks may also be mailed to: East Pierce Professional Firefighters at P.O. Box 7500, Bonney Lake, WA 98391.

</description><link>http://www.wsffa.org/news_view.aspx?articleid=32</link><pubDate>Thu, 31 Jul 2008 01:38:00 GMT</pubDate></item><item><title>Death of East Fire &amp; Rescue Fire Chief Dan Packer</title><description>The WSFFA is saddened to recognize the death of East Fire &amp; Rescue Fire Chief Dan Packer while deployed with a Washington Incident Management Team to California Saturday July 26th.  Chief Packer was a committed fire officer and always remembered his roots as a volunteer firefighter.  Chief Packer  rose to the position of President of the Washington Fire Chiefs and was recently awarded the WSFFA President’s Coin for his outstanding support and contribution to the volunteer fire service. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Chief Packer becomes the second Washington fire service member lost on Saturday July 26th.  National Parks Service Firefighter Andrew Palmer stationed in Port Angeles Olympic Park died when a tree fell upon him while battling another northern California fire. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Our condolences go out to both families while they deal with the greatest loss ever, sufffered this tragic Saturday.  The WSFFA asks that all fire service responders shroud their badges for 24 hours following funeral  services . S. Army Sergeant Phillip R. Anderson of Everett who was killed in action in Balad Ruz, Iraq on March 10. Other government entities,  citizens and businesses are encouraged to join this recognition. Flags should  remain at half-staff until sunset Thursday or first thing Friday morning, March  21. Services for Sgt. Anderson will be at Fir Lane Memorial Park in Spanaway on  March 20 at 11:00. He will be buried at Tahoma National Cemetery. Congress  recently amended the U.S. Flag Code to now give the Governor authority to lower  flags when a Washingtonian in the military is killed in the line of duty. The  U.S. Flag Code now reads: "In the event of the death of a present or former  official of the government of any State, territory, or possession of the United  States, or the death of a member of the Armed Forces from any State, territory, or possession who dies while serving on active  duty the Governor of that State, territory, or possession may proclaim that the  National flag shall be flown at half-staff"&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The WSFFA encorages it members to join Governor Gregoire in paying tribute to Washington resident and U. S. Army Sergeant Phillip R.
