Update: January 2011.
The fire service leadership by way of the Fire Service (WFC) F/F Leadership Memorial Committee has recommended a change of the Memorial date. Traditionally the date of the Washington LODD memorial service had coincidence with the National Fallen Firefighter service and Fire Prevention Week.

The proposed 2011 date presented overwhelming scheduling conflicts both at the state and National level causing the thought of moving to a more amenable time of year. It appears that the final outcome will be to hold the annual State event in the spring rather than fall. The actual date is yet to be determined. What is known is that there will not be a service held in Washington State in 2011. The 2012 event will recognize those brave souls lost in 2011.;

Memorial Committee;the committee operates under the direction of the Washington Fire Chiefs. (Oversight was previously provided by way of the Fire Protection Policy Board which succumbed to so called budget efficiency legislation. The WFC took up responsibility of continuing this vital role) The committee is assigned the responsibility of planning and operating the annual event.
