The Washington State Firefighters Association, the Washington Fire Chiefs, the Washington State Council of Firefighters, and the Washington Fire Commissioners Association invite you to join fire departments and firefighters from around the state by attending this year’s Washington State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. Show pride in your profession and support a tradition that began 25 years ago.
Each year, since 1985, the WSFFA, WSC, WSCFF, and WFCA have recognized the Washington State firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty. The 2010 service will recognize Seattle Fire Battalion Chief David Jacobs, Kirkland Firefighter Terence Goldberg, and Franklin County District 4 Fire Chief Chet Bauermeister. The annual memorial service coincides with the National Fire Administration Memorial Service held each year on the first Sunday of October during National Fire Prevention Week. A granite cairn denotes the Washington State Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial at the Fire Training Academy in North Bend.
This year’s service will take place:
Date: October 10, 2010
Time: 1:00 pm
Location: Washington State Capitol Rotunda
Olympia, Washington
In recognition of the memorial service and the fallen firefighters, the sponsoring associations ask Washington State fire departments to allow their uniform personnel to don badge covers on the day of the service between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Fire departments that intend to send an apparatus to the memorial service can contact Battalion Chief Kevin Garling at kgarling@ci.kent.wa.us for further information and to RSVP. All other attendees do not need to RSVP. If you have any other questions concerning the memorial service, please contact Pat Ellis at pjellis@ci.kent.wa.us.
The WSFFA, WSC, WSCFF, and WFCA would like to thank the Washington State Board of Volunteer Firefighters and the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office for their assistance and support.
We hope to see you there.
