What you will learn...
TRACK 1
is our
SCHOLASTIC TRACK,
a basic-learning track with fundamental classes. This track includes a
competition; those who are competing for awards must complete all three courses
in the track. Thursday’s class is HazMat; Friday you will be instructed on
Strategic Classification of Building Construction; and on Saturday you will
learn Size-up and Initial Action Plan: How to Nail First-Due Strategic
Responsibility.
TRACK 2
is our
LEADERSHIP TRACK,
geared to both new and well-established officers. Leadership II and III,
Strategies for Personal and Supervisory Success will help the company officer
enhance skills in ethics, creativity, managing multiple roles, delegation,
leadership styles, discipline, coaching and motivating.
TRACK 3
is our
EMS TRACK
and has three separate offerings: Moulage Made Easy will help you create real
looking injuries which add to the effectiveness of your training exercises. The
P.E.A.R.S. (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization) class
on Friday teaches knowledge and skills for emergency assessment and tratment of
seriously ill infants and children, and is geared toward EMT-basics and
EMT-intermediates. And on Saturday you will be instructed by Mike Smith, who
(literally) wrote the book on ACLS for EMTMT-B’s.
TRACK 4
is all about our Flashover Training Trailer - an incredible tool in firefighter
training which offers hands-on practical application and instruction for room
and content fires, hazards of flashover, roof ventilation and room search and
rescue. We put on three separate 8-hour classes throughout the conference.
TRACK 5
is a GENERAL track offering Low Angle Rescue on Thursday. Friday’s class is New
Vehicle Anatomy and the Rescuer, a highly popular extrication class. Saturday’s
session is split into two classes: Traffic Incident Management (TIM) and SCBABA
Air Management.
TRACKS 6 and 7 are both WILDLAND
TRACKS:
TRACK 6
is a general Wildland course entitled S-230 Crew Boss (Single Resource). It is
required training for personnel desiring to be qualified as a single resource
boss (engine boss). You must be qualified as an FFT1 and have successfully
completed Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior (S-290).
TRACK 7
is a Leadership Wildland Course. L-180 Human Factors on the Fireline (4-hour
class beginning 1300 on Thursday) is designed for unit-level supervisors to use
when delivering orientation training to new crew members. L-280 Followership to
Leadership (16-hour class beginning Friday) covers leadership values and
principles, transition challenges for new leaders, situational leadership, team
cohesion factors, and ethical decision-making. A pre-course assignment and exam
will be mailed prior to the conference for both Track 6 and Track 7. You must
register for the Wildland courses before May 1. Call Chief Randy Johnson at
509-662-4734 if you have further questions.
